From the Director
Are you ready?! October always surprises me with how busy it becomes… every. single. season. September is so tricky, luring me into believing that we are finally hitting our groove and then October arrives and – boom! – it’s a mind-blown, busy-explosion! So, get your calendars out, take notes, and be sure you don’t miss a BIT of the action we have coming up.
Just another quick reminder that our Mobile App, which you can download from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store, is the easiest way to register for classes and events, make payments, update your account AND receive push notification for studio events and reminders. In addition, we also have our new Google Calendar, which you can sync to your own calendar so you’ll never miss an Open Arts event again.
A quick shout-out to our Open Arts Performance Company, who have been visiting the Boys and Girls Club of Durham for a 4-week engagement to bring dance to the kids there and guide them in discovering what makes them #super. Also, congratulations to Arden Bishop for being cast in her high school’s dance production of The Nutcracker and Eleanor Hamilton for being cast as a Gingerbread Cookie in City Ballet’s Nutcracker. I love to share great news about our students, so please keep me informed!
I am looking forward to making some new memories with my Open Arts family this fall – see you at the studio soon. xo
New Swag is Coming!
Don’t forget to order your new Open Arts “You Gotta have heART” hoodie by October 8th. Our new swag should arrive by the end of the month – just in time for those cool fall nights and colder winter days. Hoodies are $30 each (plus tax) and can be order in our Square Store or by filling out the order form at the front desk.
Mural Day at Open Arts
Help us make our new dance space feel more like “home.” Local Artist and Art Educator Wendy York will be hosting a Mural Day on Saturday, October 8th to guide our students and families in designing and painting a new colorful mural in our beautiful new studio. It’s free to participate, but space is limited, so be sure you sign-up via the Mobile App (under the Events section) or through the Event Calendar. Please be sure you sign-up your child for the appropriate time based on age. Parents are welcome to help but you don’t need to sign-up for a spot.
Celebrate Halloween and Diwali at Open Arts
This is our fourth straight season of celebrating Diwali at Open Arts. Sign-up for a FREE Bollywood Dance Master Class on Thursday, October 20th from 7:45-8:30pm taught by Cary Diwali Festival Headliner Sanskriti Inamdar of Ishanya Dance. The class is open to dancers ages 8 and up and pre-registration is required as space is limited.
Ms. Maia will also be leading a Glow-in-the-Dark Diwali Yoga Class for Tweens and Teens on Monday, October 24th from 7:45-8:30pm. The class is $12 per students and pre-registration is required as space is limited.
Our younger students can also celebrate the season with a (silly, not spooky) Halloween-themed Kids Yoga Class on Saturday, October 22nd from 9:30-10:15am. The class is $12 per child and pre-registration is required as space is limited.
You can register for each event via the Event Calendar or our Mobile App! EVERYONE can celebrate the season by wearing your Halloween Costume to dance class Tuesday, October 25th – Monday, October 31st. We love to see what everyone is dressing up as for Halloween each year!
Costume Fees Due October 15th
Crazy as it seems, it’s time to start ordering costumes for our end of year Showcase performance. We will be measuring students during class and sending home COSTUME MEASUREMENT FORMS. Please be sure you select the size you’d prefer for us to order and return to the front desk. We are not able to refund Costume Fees and any returned costumes will be subject to a $30 restocking and shipping fee (please note that some costumes may not be eligible for returns based on the supply and stock of the costume company).
Costume Fees are $60 per class. We will automatically charge costume fees to families with payment information on file. If your family has THREE OR MORE Costume Fees, we are happy to split-up payments, but you must inform me via e-mail if you choose to take advantage of this option. Other families, please be sure your costume fees are paid by the 15th.
Open Talent Night + FestiFall
Open Arts Has Got Talent! And it’s your chance to prove it! The Open Arts Performance Company will be hosting our first ever Open Talent Night on Saturday, November 5th at 5pm. We will have fun Fall Festival activities for the whole family including a live Talent Show featuring our very own Open Arts students. If your child has a song, dance, magic trick, joke show, or any other talent she or he would like to share, they can sign-up to perform. This is also a great time for friends to work together plan a performance to share together.
Performance space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. We will have Talent Night Entry forms available at the front desk for interested performers to fill-out and submit for consideration.
Not interest in performing but still want to support our students and the Open Arts Performance Company? This event is open to all and we hope you will mark your calendars now for a fun night at Open Arts. Admission to the event will be on a donation basis – pay what you can – and all proceeds will benefit the Open Arts Performance Company. We will also have snacks and activities available for a small fee – more details to come!
Holiday Spectacular Info
Holiday Spectacular Information is going home this week with all of our Level I, II, and III students. We are looking forward to this fun and festive holiday sharing at the Double Tree RDU Airport on Sunday, December 11th with shows at 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm.
There is a $15 Performance Fee we will add to your November Tuition if your child is performing. This fee helps off-set the production costs and includes TWO FREE tickets to the show. Additional tickets will go on sale in November and will be $5 each plus tax. If your child will NOT be able to perform, you must inform me via e-mail to email@example.com by November 1st so that we can be sure to apply Performance Fees appropriately.

We are excited to announce that Sam will be adding an additional POUND Fitness Class on Mondays. That means you can get a POUND Workout at Open Arts every Monday AND Wednesday at 7pm.
