Studio Scoop – September – The Open Arts Newsletter
FROM THE DIRECTOR
Thank you to everyone for helping make this the smoothest start to the season yet! It has been such a joy to welcome everyone back home and meet new dancers and families. I am extremely excited about all of the exciting things to come this season.
In case you missed it, our new theme this season is #SUPER – celebrating Super Heroes, real life heroes, and the #super in all of us. We are already having so much fun – be sure you add us on Snapchat (openartsnc) to see all of the shenanigans our own Batman and Wonder Woman are getting into, and be sure to post a #super shoutout to the dancer, parent, friend here at the studio who you catch doing something #super.
I am also really hoping this will be our most INFORMED year as well. In addition to our lobby chalkboards, we have the TV Screen now with scrolling announcements so you will know everything that is happening at Open Arts. We also have our new Mobile App, which you can download from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store. The app is the easiest way to register for classes and events, make payments, and update your account. PLUS you can receive push notification for studio events and reminders. In addition, we also have our newGoogle Calendar, which you can sync to your own calendar so you’ll never miss an Open Arts event again.
We will send out these monthly newsletters at the start of each month. We will also have a few paper copies in the lobby for you to read while you’re waiting for your dancer. Please be sure you let us know if you are not receiving e-mails from us – be sure to check your spam filters and folders, and make firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com are both in your e-mail address book. And as always, never hesitate to send me an e-mail or give me a call to discuss any issues, questions, or concerns you may have. This truly is going to be the BEST year yet!
WHO WANTS TO DANCE AT DISNEY?
We are traveling to Disney June 20-24, 2017 to dance in a parade at Epcot! All dancers ages 8 and up by the time of the trip are invited to participate. We have information available at the front desk and I will be hosting an informational meeting to discuss further details on Thursday, September 8th at 7:30pm here at the studio. If you attended the meeting last spring, you will not need to attend unless you have additional questions or would like to find roommates or room sharers. Commitments and first deposits will be due October 1st.
MURAL DAY AT OPEN ARTS
Help us make our new dance space feel more like “home.” Local Artist and Art Educator Wendy York will be hosting a Mural Day on Saturday, October 8th to guide our students and families in designing and painting a new colorful mural in our beautiful new studio. It’s free to participate, but space is limited, so be sure you sign-up via the Mobile App (under the Events section) or through the Event Calendar. Please be sure you sign-up your child for the appropriate time based on age. Parents are welcome to help but you don’t need to sign-up for a spot.
OAPC AT THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB
The Open Arts Performance Company will be traveling to the Boys and Girls Club of Durham in September and October to share dance and movement with their after-school program kids. We will be teaching an hour long dance workshop to a new group of students each week, ending with an informal sharing for their peers and families. We will be sharing pictures and videos of our work on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.
PARENTS… GET ACTIVE!
We are excited to share two new fitness partnerships and opportunities for our Open Arts adults. Samantha has already begun her POUND Fitness Classes – every Wednesday at 7pm. Join her for a full-body cardio jam session that strengthens and sculpts while burning calories to your favorite music. Learn more about the class and pricing on our website.
Also, beginning September 26th, Body Back will be at Open Arts for their Fall Session with classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:45-10:45am with CHILDCARE AVAILABLE on-site during class. Body Back is a results-focused workout and nutrition program specifically designed for moms. You can learn more about the program on our website or visit the Cary Fit4Mom Body Back website for more information.
